Paragon’s Hard Disk Manager Premium Replaces Symantec Tape-based Backup and Recovery Software at Converse College

Logo_Converse_CollegeFounded in 1889, Converse College, is the liberal education of undergraduate women in a residential setting. “We were using Symantec Backup Exec backup to tape,” said Cori Williams McClure, IT manager at Converse College. “We needed to update to a newer version or find a better solution. I started investigating different software solutions, contacted my sales representative at ScholarBuys, and he recommended Paragon.”

“It was time to update our tape backup solution or find a more cost-effective replacement,” said Cori Williams McClure, network administrator at Converse College. “After conducting initial research on what other educational institutions used for backup and recovery on the Internet, I reached out to ScholarBuys for a final recommendation and fulfillment.”

The primary requirements of the software was that it needed to be easy-to-use, provide a reliable restore, and be cost-effective. The final decision process included a Paragon-hosted webinar demonstration by one of Paragon’s engineers. Other features such as job-scheduling and granular recovery were an added bonus. After testing the software they decided on Paragon because of its features and fantastic price point. “I did a demo with Paragon and one other solution, and found that Paragon was the best fit for our College,” added Williams McClure.

“As a preferred partner of Paragon; we have had quite a few customers purchase Paragon’s software,” said Spencer Leffelman, sales executive at ScholarBuys, a value added software reseller specializing in the education market. “We recommended Paragon’s software as a possible solution because we always hear positive comments about Paragon — never any negative feedback. From a reseller’s perspective, they are very responsive, always ready to hop on a call with a customer. They offer great support and great software.”

Now Available: High Availability Storage with Instantaneous Failover and Recovery via iSCSI SAN & NAS

The Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS is a storage hypervisor that turns any industry-standard Windows server into a reliable, fault-tolerant, and unified SAN and NAS, while utilizing off-the-shelf hardware or existing storage devices and network infrastructure.

Offering savings of up to 90 percent, iSCSI SAN & NAS is a powerful alternative to traditional High Availability (HA) products that rely on costly, proprietary, hardware-based HA architectures.

The product offers several deployment options including a three-node HA structure designed to eliminate a single point of failure. The product’s configurations are double fault tolerant (failure of 2 out of 3 storage nodes) resulting in 99.999% uptime. As a flexible and easy-to-manage solution, any IT administrator familiar with Windows servers can configure and deploy the Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS solution in a matter of minutes.

The software provides a measurable five “9’s” in up-time performance while eliminating the need for expensive, proprietary hardware, empowering new market segments to embrace the high availability model.

Key features include:

  • Install the solution and configure a new SAN in minutes
  • Centralize site-wide iSCSI storage provisioning via the Paragon Management Console
  • Achieve cost-effective HA processing with instantaneous failover and recovery
  • Protect data using HA, RAID-1 mirroring, automated snapshots, and replication
  • Consolidate file and block level data, unifying SAN and NAS storage to simplify configuration, management, and maintenance
  • Use NAS to create iSCSI targets and avoid the purchase of new hard drives for storage

Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS enables an N+1 configuration that allows for building an on-site two or three-node HA cluster with off-site replication. The built-in WAN replication feature assists in the creation of a disaster recovery site that can be located miles away from the main datacenter. The WAN acceleration technology is based on deduplication, snapshots, and compression, in which their combined power ensures 50x-100x reduction of transmitted data and allows for the use of slower WAN connections.

Corsair Embeds Paragons NTFS driver into New Voyager Air Portable, Wireless Drive

Corsair’s newly released Voyager Air, a portable, wireless drive, is embedded with Paragon’s universal file system driver (UFSD) technology. Paragon’s drivers enable cross-platform read/write access to various file systems connected to the Voyager Air. Corsair’s drive was announced at their launch event at CES 2013.

“Paragon’s driver technology was selected over its competition because of its exceptional transfer rate performance,” said Thi La, Senior VP and GM of Memory and Enthusiast Component Products at Corsair. “By embedding Paragon’s drivers into our solution, Voyager Air is best-in-class with regards to file/data transfer speeds; especially when it is directly attached via USB 3.0.”

Paragon’s cross-platform driver technology makes the Voyager Air compatible with all devices and PCs, regardless of the operating system. The portable Voyager Air is the first all-in-one mobile, wireless, home network drive. It can be used as a home NAS via its Gigabit connection or as a portable hard drive (USB 3.0) or a wireless hub (Wi-Fi). Voyager Air streams movies and music via Wi-Fi to multiple client devices including PCs, Macs, and Android and iOS devices.

Voyager Air supports multiple partitions and comes preformatted with the NTFS file system with which Paragon’s driver is included to enable Mac users to write to the NTFS drive. Voyager Air users may reformat the drive with an HFS+ file system, if needed.

As demand increases for multimedia mobile devices to share data and connect with each other, the demand for the underlying driver technology for NTFS, HFS+, exFAT and other file system is critical to maintaining a seamless environment for the consumer.

Paragon’s  cross-platform technology enables storage devices, smartphones, tablets, set top boxes, multimedia players, routers and other hardware to communicate regardless of the operating system, be it  Android-, Windows-, Mac- or Linux-based.
