D-Link Embeds exFAT, NTFS, and HFS+ Driver Technology into Upcoming Products

exFAT, HFS+, NTFS drivers for OEMsParagon Software Group recently inked a deal with D-Link to license Paragon’s Universal File System Driver (UFSD) technology on select products. Bringing D-Link into the Paragon Software family fold is exciting to say the least as we are adding to our growing list of networking and mobility clients.

OEMs embed Paragon Software’s exFAT/NTFS/HFS+ driver technology into their network appliances and smart devices to ensure seamless connectivity regardless of the operating systems involved. Paragon’s cross-platform file access technology enables storage devices, network appliances, smartphones, tablets, set top boxes, multimedia players, routers, NAS and other hardware to communicate with storage media regardless of the chip set platform or operating system. As a result, consumers can stream multimedia content to network and entertainment devices or external storage for later playback on a device of their choosing.

As one of the pioneers in the embedded Linux and Android space, Paragon has been at the forefront of innovation for platform independence and file access drivers. Working closely with D-Link product management, we are delivering the next generation of products that will set the bar for performance, reliability, and device interoperability.

“Paragon’s Universal File System Driver software is the market leader in interoperability, with compelling performance and unique data protection that will deliver increased performance to our customers,” said Bradley Joe, vice president business operations and alliances, D-Link Systems, Inc.

Furthermore, Paragon’s drivers support the latest SDXC cards, which are used for expanding storage on a variety of devices in the marketplace including cameras, smartphones, smart TVs, tablets, and routers.

Top-Tier OEMs Tap Paragon for Cross-Platform Drivers

Tom Fedro, President of Paragon Software Group

exFAT, HFS+, NTFS drivers for OEMsEmerging markets for Smart TVs, Set Top Boxes, Smartphones, Tablets, and Connected devices are driving the demand for Paragon’s  exFAT, NTFS, and HFS+ driver technology. More than a decade ago, we recognized the need for fast UFSD technology to provide full cross-platform access to all of the popular file systems under diverse platforms (Android, Linux, Windows, and Mac) where these file systems are not natively supported — while maintaining data integrity. Paragon’s technology successfully bridges the gap between any file system and the various operating systems or embedded kernels in the market.

Paragon’s OEM program has seen requirements to specify its cross-platform Universal File System Driver (UFSD) technology grow as a result of high consumer demand for Android-powered Smart TVs/Monitors/Set Top Boxes, Smartphones, Tablets and Connected Devices, which fully support SDXC cards and Windows/Mac USB drives.

Representative UFSD Tier 1 OEM Paragon customers for Android- and Linux-based devices include top manufacturers such as the following:

  • Acer
  • ASUS
  • Buffalo
  • Cisco Systems
  • Hitachi Ltd.
  • NETGEAR
  • Logitech
  • LG Electronics
  • Western Digital
  • EMC/Iomega
  • Seagate
  • Lenovo

What do our OEMs say about our technology?

“Paragon has been a strong partner for Buffalo; their first-class OEM support as well as the superior performance and features of their technology are key reasons we have chosen PSG for our Smart Box project,” said Kentaro Odaka, General Manager of Product Development Div. at Buffalo Inc.

“The Paragon driver’s performance on our ARMADA® 1500 DMP platform was very compelling and it enhanced the value of the platform,” said Edward Silva, Sr. Product Manager at Marvell Semiconductor. “We look forward to promoting it to our customers.”

Paragon proved its leadership in cross-platform technology with millions of satisfied end users worldwide. When compared to other alternatives, its portfolio of Android and Linux drivers provide measurably superior data throughput performance combined with strong data protection capabilities to ensure file system integrity — even in the case of unsafe removal of the storage device or a power outage.  A compelling feature set complimented by comprehensive chip set support from industry leaders like Intel, Nvidia and Qualcomm to Marvell Semiconductor, Realtek Semiconductor, PLX Technology, Cavium Networks, and Applied Micro has propelled Paragon to be the standard in cross-platform file sharing for the mobile device and embedded system marketplace segments.

We continue to be impressed with the variety of devices utilizing our driver technology that our OEMs and chip manufacturers are bringing to market; from next-generation smart phones and smart TVs to tablets, set-top boxes and advanced digital media players. It’s a very exciting time for the company.

Volume Snapshot for Mac OS X

The only snapshot based backup solution for comprehensive protection of both data & systems!

Easily create an exact point-in-time copy of your data & system, and when a disaster strikes – get everything back in minutes. Unlike Time Machine and other file-level backup utilities, our solution has very fast backup and restore capabilities. Now you can backup running applications and locked system files, and if your system fails – there is no need re-install, just boot from the Mac® OS X Install DVD and launch the restore operation. This is a huge time saver compared to other methods.

True live protection

Traditional backups involving file archiving has a number of drawbacks, like:

  • Running applications usually require exclusive rights for processed files, thus preventing a backup program from copying them.
  • During a volume backup to ensure accessibility of files and the data integrity, a program requires suspension and/or termination of all running applications. For high-capacity disk systems, this could take hours.

Snapshot-based backup easily solves these problems. It’s a common industry term denoting the ability to record the state of a storage device at any given moment (make a snapshot), and then preserve that snapshot as a guide for restoring the machine in case of emergency.

Fastest Recovery

The old way: In case of a system malfunction (it fails to boot), you should re-install the system first. To do that, you need to boot from a distributive CD and install the system (~40 minutes). After that, you need to set up Time Machine and roll back to the required state of the system. This process is time-consuming as it involves re-installation of the operating system.

The better way: With Paragon Snapshot for Mac you don’t need to re-install the system, just boot from a Mac OS X Installation DVD and restore via Disk Utility. Moreover, data retrieval from snapshot is accomplished through private interfaces, which is faster, than processing files on a file system level. Reduce the number of steps it takes to restore your system with Snapshot for Mac®.

Software Giveaway: HFS for Windows – 50,000 License Giveaway

HFS for Windows, the only software that lets you read Apple iPods, Macs and iPad data from a Windows PC. It is a well known fact that Windows cannot read from and write to HFS+ partitions. This limits the ability to exchange or share files between Windows and Mac OS X file systems. Occasionally, users will rely on the services of FAT partitions which can be read and written to by both Windows and Mac OS X. FAT partitions have disadvantages and limitations as well for example you can’t store/create files greater than 4GB in size. Moreover, what if your data is already stored on a Mac-formatted partition and you want to migrate them to a Windows-formatted drive (NTFS) to preserve the integrity of the data?
